Hazrat Abbas (A.S) was Imam Hussain’s (A.S) brother and Imam Ali (A.S) was his father. I choose Hazrat Abbas (A.S) because he was a great, brave hero.

On the day of Ashura when all of Imam Hussain’s (A.S) companions were getting Martyred Hazrat Abbas (A.S) said to Imam Hussain (A.S)

“I can no longer stand it. I want to take avenge upon those hypocrites’’.

Imam Hussain (A.S) asked to get water for the harem and the children who were gravely thirsty. Hazrat Abbas (A.S) agreed to that. He directed his speech to the yazidi’s people and said

“Omar ibne saad this is Al-hussain, son of daughter of Allah’s Messenger. You have killed his (A.S) companions and household. These now are the children and harem. They are thirsty and I ask you to give them water. Never the less he is still calling you to let him go to Rome or India and leave Hijaz and Iraq for you…” Nobody could answer this except Shimr. He said

“Son of Abu Turab, if the surface of the Earth is water controlled by us we will not give you a single drop of it before you submit to the leadership of Yazid”.

Al- Abbas (A.S) then told this to his brother. In the meanwhile he heard the cries of the children and the harems. He ran off with a mashkiza and went forward to the river to get water and his heart was as hot as fire because of the thirst of Imam Hussain’s companions. He got water and went towards his brother’s camp. All of the yazidi surrounded his brother’s   camp so he could not get there. One of Imam Hussain’s enemy hid behind a tree and struck him from the back of his right hand. Al-Abbas the hero did not care for so when held the water in his left hand and said “By Allah if you cut my right hand I will keep on defending my religion and that true tongued Imam (A.S) who is son of the pure Prophet (S.A.W)”

Later a man hid behind a tree   and struck Al-Abbas with a sword on his left hand and cut it. He was bleeding and suffering pain but he still held the mashkiza with his teeth and tried to get to the camp mine while a spear hit the mashkiza and it dropped on the ground. Seeing this he was sad and did not know what to do. A man then attacked him with an iron post on the head Al-Abbas (A.S)  fell to the ground and shouted “peace be upon you Abuabdula’’. When Imam Hussain (A.S) heard this he went to were Al-Abbas fell. Imam Hussain was sad and shouted

“My spine is now broken I have lost every thing and enemies are happy at my misfortune”.

Nobody could tell how much in pain he was. He went back toward his camp weeping off his tears. His daughter sakina asked Imam Hussain where her uncle Al-Abbas was? Then imam hussain told her about Hazrat Abbas martyrdom she could do nothing but other than cry. This was more difficult for Bibi Zainab who put her hand over her heart and shouted

“O brother Abbas we lost every thing as we lost you” Everyone of Imam Hussain’s (A.S) companion was crying and weeping and shouted “we surely lost every thing as we lost you Abu’l-fadulAl-Abbas”
